The Secret Splendour

  Poems

O voiceful words, strive only to instil

By contemplative hue of harmony

A deathless image of inaudible

Lip-parted soul-trance—firm serenity

Stemming the universe of stray desire,

 Like cool rock-rapture lifted motionless

In purple poise against the loud sapphire

Foam-mood of passion—agelong loneliness

Through which life's sorrowing visage learns to wear

A hidden smile of God-futurity

And the deep heart's occult apocalypse dare

Though with an earthquake throe it leave behind

A nameless ruin smouldering silently

Where ran the shock of vision through the mind.
