Sun Blossoms

  Poems

First Word

CALM like the mountain and inviolable
Rises this star out of the morning-sea
Hewn slowly from Gods hushed creative will,
First word breaking the womb of agony.

A voice it brings and opens the hidden door
Through a narrow fissure of encrusted earth:
A blazing eye of the invisible core
Comes down like an eagle into mortal birth.

Life's dead, and from its voiceless grave of snow
A million rays reflect the unborn sun;
Nothing that has lived lone in its white ow
Is ever dead, but a still silence won

Into the throb of hueless matted coils:
A jewel fashioned from rock-stone of toils.
