In 1960 Mother expressed her wish that not too much homework should be given to the students. She had always been saying this and wanted that the children should have free time at home to pursue their own interest and not be burdened by too much homework.
However, in my class of arithmetic the students wanted to be given homeworks. I asked them to write to Mother. Mother replied to that letter.
Here is a loose translation.
After correcting their French, She wrote
"If only you could write French a little more correctly.
You can have homeworks if you really want them, but it is better to do little and well rather than a lot without care and concentration.
If you wish to do anything whatsoever, you must learn to discipline and concentrate yourself."
Mother.
