The Mother’s commentaries on Sri Aurobindo’s 'Thoughts and Aphorisms' were given over the twelve-year period from 1958 to 1970. All the Mother's commentaries were spoken or written in French. She also translated Sri Aurobindo's text into French.
390—The north-country Indian herdsman, attacked by fever, sits in the chill stream of a river for an hour or more and rises up free and healthy. If the educated man did the Page 322 same, he would perish, not because the same remedy in its nature kills one and cures another, but because our bodies have been fatally indoctrinated by the mind into false habits. 391—It is not the medicine that cures so much as the patient's faith in the doctor and the medicine. Both are a clumsy substitute for the natural faith in one's own self-power which they have themselves destroyed. 392—The healthiest ages of mankind were those in which there were the fewest material remedies. 393—The most robust and healthy race left on earth were the African savages; but how long can they so remain after their physical consciousness has been contaminated by the mental aberrations of the civilised?

As always Sri Aurobindo's words are prophetic. For only when humanity is cured of its mental aberrations will it be able to manifest the supramental consciousness and recover the natural health which the mind has lost for it.
