The Secret Splendour

  Poems

The wondrous lure

Of outward hues

 Must fall away

Ere the soul views

God's light eternal,

Truth bare and free—

 Body of deathless calm

And purity.

 But still beyond

That loveliness

Unstained by time

The soul must press.

 Within the body

Of God's sheer light

 Is the soul of God's

Creative might.

There burns the Beauty

To make divine

Even life's luring

Outward shine.

Short of that inmost

Fire of the world

 Eternity itself

Is half unfurled.
