The Secret Splendour

  Poems

Gigantic wood-glooms fill my consciousness,

Throwing strange spirit-shadows everywhere

With solitary-stretching numberless

Great arms of invocation in he air.

A massive unextinguishable fire.

Captive of clay, has dreamfull embrowned

Those secret limbs, uplifting ever higher

The tremulous beauty with which they are crowned.

I am a songward soar of dumb desire:

Rooted in earth, my silentnesses driven

By kinship with the Unknowable aspire

To house the winging ecstasy of heaven.
