Names have been generally omitted as they are not necessary for the purpose in view. It may be mentioned, however, that S.D. who figures frequently in these pages is Sri S. Duraiswami Iyer whose friendship and association with Sastriar dated from a very early age. Sastriar had always loved him for his brilliance, nobility and vision. A. R. P. is Sri A.R. Ponnuswami-a life-long friend-for whose erudition, sincerity and judgement, Sastriar had great regard. P. is Parvati Ammal, Sastriar’s wife. S. is Sundaribai (sister of Sri Sunder Pandit), whose receptivity to the Higher Consciousness came in for special appreciation by Sastriar. The rest of the contents have been compiled from papers not published so far in a permanent form. In the Translations (Part III), there are two cantos from the Umasahasram (of Vasishtha Ganapati Muni) rendered into English by Sastriar in collaboration with Sri A. R. Ponnuswami Iyer. Similarly, the Glossary (Part IV) is compiled from a tentative list of Sanskrit equivalents of a number of terms used in a special sense in Sri Aurobindo Literature, prepared by both of them for the guidance of translators of the works of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother in Indian languages. Sastriar himself has translated some of the key-works into Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu and knew the difficulties of the translator in this field. Though the draft was not finally revised by Sastriar, it has been included in this collection for its intrinsic value even as it is.
