Sieyes : Emmanuel-Joseph (1748-1836), his concept of popular sovereignty guided the French bourgeoisie in their struggle against the monarchy & nobility in the opening months of the French Revolution. Although he enjoyed fame as a clergyman his vanity & lack of oratorical skill reduced his political effectiveness.
