Prahlada : son of the Asura king Hiranyakashipu; while yet a boy he became an ardent devotee of Vishnu. This enraged his father, who tried to get him killed in various ways. Prahlāda, however, escaped unhurt every time. Ultimately Vishnu in his incarnation as Narasingha (q.v.) killed Hiranyakashipu.
