EMERALD water, snow-white foam,

And running waves....

Fathoms down .the mermaids comb

Sun-gold hair in sombre caves.

Above, the wrestling water-surge.

Loud breakers' fall. . . .

All cries in nether hush immerge,

And echo-dumb the Caverned wall.

Din is drowned in depths of green :

O'er shadowy lawn

Drifting gape-mouth fish are seen,

A fingery crab, a phantom prawn.
